2016 Painted Diesel Tank

Site: Southeast Diesel Inc. (23rd St. @ Orchard Knob Ave.)

Artists: 25 participants from AIM Center and the GLAD program from New City Fellowship Church in collaboration with professional artists Judy Mogul and Frances McDonald

Partners: AIM Center, New City Fellowship, and Southeast Diesel Inc.

Description:  In the interest of beautifying 23rd St., Southeast Diesel Inc. (SDI) wanted to animate the street frontage of their business by transforming an unused diesel tank into a painted “sculpture” inspired by the American flag. Mark Making offered workshops to members of the AIM Center, a psychosocial rehabilitation center. Each member created their own flag-inspired design collaged from cut paper. SDI selected the design created by Rodrick McGee, who transferred his design to the diesel tank and worked with other AIM Center artists to paint it, upcycling their unused tank into an inspiring and patriotic work of art.
